in regards to your last sentence I think you are highly under-estimating recruitment. And I agree with your comment that the best players will go to state schools where they can excell in football, but maybe these kids aren't here just for the football. Football got them into Duke- a very prestigious university where they will presumably come out with a very prestigious degree so yea I'm sure they came more for that aspect of their future rather than relying on football, because if this was a crappy school with a football team reputation like we have then no one would sign.
Good point for sure. So we have to recognize that as long as our student-athletes see the program as a means to getting a prestigious degree and not to playing in a great football program then we should not expect the program to ever be great.
